Do you relate to any of the following:

  • You are struggling to understand your dog's behaviour or find ways to help them become more resilient to environmental stress.

  • You want to learn to resolve your dog's behaviour-emotional challenges without using pain, punishment or corrections!

  • You want to help your dog become the best version of themselves.

  • You want to cultivate a deep connection with your dog that will bring meaning and purpose to both your lives.

If you've made it here, you're most likely SO ready to help your dog overcome their behaviour-emotion challenges and resolve the chronic dysregulation they experience. Maybe you've exhausted tools that don't work and you're ready to find the solution that will work for you and your dog.

The thing is, your dog is an individual with their own personality, genetics, needs, development, attachment styles and experiences. What works for other dogs, might not apply to yours. You need an individualized approach to help you understand YOUR dog.

What does it mean to be a C.A.N.I.N.E?

C.A.N.I.N.E. Centred Therapy is a multilayered, integrative approach to help families learn how to raise their dogs to their fullest potential for success, happiness and well-being. The following acronym summarizes the critical factors considered in the canine-centred therapy approach:

Constitution (personality)

Ancestry (genetics)

Needs (fulfilment and purpose)

Individual (age/development/health status)

Nurture (attachment/environment)

Experience (learning history)

Canine-Centred Therapy

Canine-Centred Therapy recognizes that all dogs are unique individuals born into this world fully equipped biologically to navigate life without human intervention. Canine-centred therapists and coaches believe every dog strives for and can fulfil their potential under the right conditions.

The main goal of therapy is to help guardians understand the uniqueness of their dogs, facilitate their development, meet their individual needs and expand their life skills and coping abilities so they can start to thrive.

When a dog is not living at their potential or thriving, canine-centred therapy fosters opportunities to make desired changes and improve the dog’s and the guardian’s quality of life through an integrative, multi-faceted approach.

Canine-Centred Therapy utilizes behaviour therapy models such as behaviour activation and skill building; cognitive behaviour therapy tools such as regulation, mindfulness and progressive relaxation; biological models for understanding brain & body development, hormones & neurotransmitters and nutritional factors.

Want to know more about canine-centred therapy?

If you are trying to understand your dog's behaviour, their triggers, and how to help them build resilience and confidence, I've got the perfect opportunity for you to attend a live virtual workshop that covers all of the above.

Based on the Canine-Centred Therapy model, Creating a Resilience Plan for Canine Dysregulation is a unique opportunity to peel back the complex layers of your dog's behaviour and learn how to create an environment and experiences that will support healing, arousal regulation and resilience.

Creating a Resilience Plan for Canine Dysregulation

Canine Dysregulation Syndrome is a common condition experienced by domesticated dogs that results in high levels of psychological and physiological arousal and produces unhealthy, unsafe and unproductive behaviour. Families with dogs dealing with CDS might experience hyperactivity, restlessness, chewing or destruction, barking, lunging or threatening actions, fearfulness, biting and other types of expressions that manifest when the nervous system is stuck in a chronic state of fight or flight.

This online workshop takes you through creating a resilience plan for your dog by completing The Trigger Tree, Canine Edition workbook over two sessions on July 13 & 27, each running from 6;00-8:00 pm. Each session allows for discussion, reflection, clarification and understanding of the deep, underlying issues that create canine dysregulation and exploration of ways to shift a dog's nervous system from a reactive state back into a responsive one. "Success! Panther has always had a hard time giving up the toy. I've always thought "don't you know how much more fun this game of fetch and tug would be if you gave it up sometimes!" I joined Niki Perry's online program several months ago and I learn something new every time I log on. So does Panther!"

"Mat work is the best thing since sliced bread!! Thank you Niki for helping us learn this invaluable foundation tool. We spent a lot of time capturing and shaping this behaviour then conditioning the verbal cue. Today we started generalizing by using our new 'mat' trick to keep Nala from bugging us while eating supper! It worked so well I'm so happy I joined CPU, my dog training skills are already reaching new levels."

"Very proud of my sweet Broccoli today! I took him for a walk during daylight hours for the first time in a couple months, as he’s usually does not do well with the amount of stimulation around him. Today he did not bark at a single person we walked by and didn’t spend the whole walk with his tail tucked between his legs. He happily played in the snow like a doofus! A huge thanks to Niki for helping us make the progress required for this to be possible!"
